Booking a Tarpon Guided Trip
Going on a guided fishing trip for the very first time in the Florida Keys can be intimidating to say the very least. There are several ways to book a Captain/Guide for your trip through either an Outfitter / Fly Shop or directly with a guide, through a hosted fishing trip or a referral from a trusted friend. Whichever way you chose, remember these are professionals with reputations to uphold and will fittingly provide you with the services required, but their services are not inexpensive. These Guides will furnish you with the very best equipment from their boat, gear, to their knowledge and only ask that you come prepared with a great attitude and you not exaggerate your capabilities or resume so they can provide you the very best day chasing the “Silver King”.

Your Guide will direct you through the entire pre-date arrangements all the way to the last second of the charter in making your day a memorable time. The one thing to remember, not everyday results in trophy record fish and some days no matter every method used and area fished can be “No Hook Up Days”. In an instance like this just remember you are seeing sights very few can enjoy in solitude and you are truly fishing in Jurassic Park for dinosaurs!

Understanding the Captain's Directions
When you are on the bow of your Guides' boat, they will direct you based on the face of the clock. Straight ahead will be 12:00 and every movement to the right will be in increments of 15 – 30 minute movements such as 12:30, 1:00, 1:15 etc. Also, every movement to the left will be 15 -30 minute movements such as 11:45, 11:30, 11:00 etc. Get use to these time directions as you will hear them throughout the entire time as your guide directs you to sight fishing your prey.
The Guide will also be providing the distance of the cast in footage, as well as pick up and recast to the right or left. During this time there will also be a few other words of encouragement given for sure...
Always remember, both you and your Guide are fishing the same fish together at the same time.
