Fly Fishing Gear

An Introduction to Guided Fishing Gear

Fly Fishing Gear

All Florida Keys Guides are sponsored or affiliated with “Premium” Fly Rod and Fly Reel manufacturers and have the very best of the best tools for their clients to use at no additional cost while fishing with them.  Many will suggest you use their equipment until you have fished together or you have purchased equivalent equipment on you own.  They are only looking out for your success, so please consider using their equipment prior to investing in your own until you are ready to make a major commitment to the “Silver King” addiction.  If of course you are very comfortable with your equipment and feel it will lead to your success, by all means the Guides will certainly have their equipment as back-up should the need arise.

Also, the Guides will have the necessary flies that have been producing the most action in their fly boxes and will match the correct fly pattern to area and water conditions you’ll be fishing throughout the day.

Personal Gear

Always have plenty of lotion sunscreen (sprays are frowned upon using on a boat), a hat of your choice, UPF 50+ clothing, a camera if you choose, a towel, polarized amber sunglasses, any drinks of your choice other than water (Guide provided) and lunch for you and you Guide.  Use a small boat bag for easy storage.

Special Note:

  • Don't wear flip flops while fishing on the water!  We have seen severe burns!

  • Polarized sunglasses are critical in filtering out the reflection and seeing the fish.
